Ginger is a Labrador retriever mix who spent more than seven years in a shelter. She had simply watched many of her fellow dogs get adopted, and was waiting for someone to adopt her. This dog went from being an elderly dog with no chance of finding a family to being her most beloved possession when a photo of her went viral on Facebook. Ginger had been trying to adopt him for more than seven and a half years, but no one noticed. That’s how the Dogwood Animal Shelter at Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach, Missouri, came up with the idea of using a sad photo that told its story to encourage adoptions of its elderly dogs.

Ginger was adopted by a woman in 2020 as a result of this story going viral. The elderly dog had the opportunity to experience true love, and she is clearly very happy now that she has a new owner.
