Gertie, whose full name is Gertrude, is a 14-year-old dog who was on her way to achieving one goal: receiving 1,000 hugs. Her story is the inspiration for today’s special edition. Gertie was a mixed breed who was discovered at a McDonald’s in Arizona with her loyal friend, the Chihuahua Pablo. They were adopted by Kate Goodhart, who has an important last name, via Facebook. They were older, so no one wanted to adopt them for a long time, despite a fairly effective campaign on Facebook, but Kate couldn’t resist them and chose to adopt them as soon as she saw their pictures on social media.

Unfortunately, older dogs like Gertie are often abandoned because their owners want to produce puppies and, as a result, cruelly dispose of their beloved dogs somewhere down the road. Anyone who has owned an older dog knows how much he loves his people, not only love but also calm, wisdom and experience, and Gertie was no exception.

Kate decided to take Gertie to the vet after she adopted her; Unfortunately, the results of the examination did not predict a bright future. After the examination, the vet recommended putting Gertie to sleep because the road ahead was full of misery due to her condition and age. Regardless of the vet’s advice, Kate was determined to give Gertie a chance; She believed in her fighting spirit and was steadfast in her desire to give her as many beautiful moments as possible until the end of her life. Gertie revived, as if she had a surplus of energy, and her health improved markedly, much to the joy of her family; It’s amazing how loving a dog positively affects him.

Gertie set out to achieve an extraordinary goal after her adoption: collect at least 1,000 hugs before she leaves us forever. The purpose of this entire project is to give this elderly dog as much love and joy as possible – a beautiful work and concept by his new owner, Kate. Naturally, everything was done so that Gertie could enjoy everything. For example, if Gertie feels tired, the hugging will stop immediately and she will take a well-deserved rest. It was all about Gertie and what she wanted at the time.

In the name of this project, a Facebook page was created where followers can enjoy daily photos of Gertie’s happy moments in all the places where she met people who were eager to share her joy. Through her Facebook page, you can find out how many people supported everything that happened to her and how many messages of love and support were left for her in the comments. Her story got to the point that it was covered in local newspapers in Anthem, Arizona. Hopefully her story will reach a large enough audience to raise awareness of older dogs and get people to adopt them.

The main aim of this project was to promote awareness of older dogs and dogs in general; How important they are to our family members, and how they deserve to be loved in return for the unconditional love they give us. Gertie wasn’t with us in public, but she was with us long enough to spread love and joy to all the people she met along the way and who followed her on social media and other platforms.
