Having a paralyzed dog or cat is not easy for any pet owner due to their specific needs. Unfortunately, this often leads to crippled dogs being abandoned by their owners. Lunita was a beautiful little dog who, sadly, was paralyzed and left on the streets of Salta, Argentina.
Thankfully, one of the dog groomers noticed Lunita and felt sorry for her, so they contacted the rescue group LUBA Salta. Soon, two volunteers rushed over to assess Lunita’s condition and take her in.
She was found lying face down on the pavement, tied to a rail near a dog grooming establishment. Her hind legs were attached to a rusty wheelchair. Next to her, there was a bag of diapers and a letter with her name, age, and an explanation. Her previous owners stated that they couldn’t keep her, and they didn’t provide any food or water for her.
Lunita was taken to a shelter and later placed in a foster family. The volunteers shared her story on Facebook in the hopes of finding a permanent home for her. Eventually, a family from the United States contacted the group and offered to give Lunita a loving home.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go well for Lunita in her new home. The family didn’t know how to properly care for a disabled dog and ended up neglecting her, leading to Lunita developing a severe staphylococcal infection.
It took tremendous effort and medical care to help Lunita overcome all her health issues. Afterward, another family from the United States stepped in and offered Lunita a home. With her new family and improved health, she became one of the happiest dogs anyone had ever seen. She could play with her canine sibling, move around with a custom-built wheelchair, visit parks, play in the snow, and even have birthday celebrations.
Sadly, just a month after celebrating her 11th birthday, Lunita fell ill and had to be taken to the ICU at the University Medical Hospital, where she fought for her life once again. Surrounded by her loved ones, she passed away.
“I will never forget her and how much she meant to me,” Lunita’s mom posted on Facebook. “She impacted my life forever. I loved her so much.”
Lunita’s journey came to an end, but it serves as a powerful example of resilience. One thing is certain: Lunita’s last year of life was the best she ever had. Share this article with all your friends to honor this incredible dog! Rest in peace, Lunita!
