Simon, a border collie in the midst of his own recovery, approached Sammie, a 4-month-old boxer mix, and tenderly placed his paw on Sammie’s. Despite the time gap between their rescues, it appeared as though Simon unders tood the pain and hardship Sammie had endured after undergoing surgery at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
“They encountered each other at the veterinarian’s office, and Simon immediately formed this extraordinary bond with Sammie,” shared Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, with Bored Panda. “He is fiercely protective of him.”
Sammie had been through unimaginable horrors, having not only been subjected to spray-painting but also shot in the head and dragged by a vehicle. Simon continually keeps a watchful eye on his newfound little companion. While Simon’s recovery will soon be complete, allowing him to be available for adoption, Sammie still faces a challenging road ahead.
“We’re uncertain at the moment whether Sammie will fully recover since he recently underwent surgery,” O’Sullivan explained. “The veterinarian needs two weeks to determine if his leg can be saved. Infection is the greatest concern, and there is a possibility that he may lose one or both legs. However, we’re doing everything we can to save them.”
Simon never leaves the side of 4-month-old Sammie, who has endured abuse similar to his own. Sammie suffered unimaginable cruelty, being both spray-painted and shot in the head before being dragged by a car. Although these two dogs were rescued weeks apart, Simon remains a constant source of support for his young friend.
“They encountered each other at the vet, and Simon was instantly drawn to Sammie. He watches over him with unwavering devotion,” shared Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Though Sammie still faces a lengthy journey to recovery, he is in capable and caring hands (and paws). We extend our gratitude to Jackie O’Sullivan for shedding light on the heartwarming bond between Simon and Sammie!
