The Animal Rescue of Anton received a call about a pregnant dog in Coronado who had been abandoned just days before giving birth. Some kind people had offered her food, but many others had shooed her away, leaving her to find refuge in a field near the highway. She was heavily pregnant and in need of help.
Fortunately, a compassionate lady spotted her and immediately contacted the Animal Rescue of Anton for assistance. When the rescue team arrived, the dog became frightened and ran away, although her pregnancy slowed her down. The team followed her patiently, and eventually, she grew tired and lay down. They used food to lure her into a cage, and thankfully, she entered without panicking.
The veterinarian determined that she was only a few days away from giving birth. An ultrasound revealed that all of her fetuses were healthy, with at least 10 puppies on their way into the world. Although slightly smaller than average, they were expected to be okay.
The pregnant dog had a slightly deviated hip and a severe parasite infection. The rescue team carefully removed visible parasites and provided her with a medicated wash to prevent reinfection. Throughout the process, she remained calm and showed no signs of aggression.
Finally, the time came for her to give birth. That night, she was a bit apprehensive, but she successfully delivered 11 adorable puppies. All of the puppies survived and are doing well. The puppies, six males and five females, were born on March 22nd, and the Animal Rescue of Anton couldn’t be happier.
They are hoping to find loving homes for the mother and her puppies. Please share this heartwarming story with your friends and family to spread awareness and help find these dogs the homes they deserve.
