A kind-hearted person discovered a German Shepherd on the street near their home and called Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Louis for help. The dog appeared unable to walk, leading them to believe it may have been hit by a car.
The dog was described as emaciated and covered in wheezing, Stray Rescue of St. Petersburg shared. Louis said in their YouTube video that the poor old soul looked like he was living among the garbage and had back legs. While they don’t believe he was hit by a car, it seems likely he suffers from degenerative myelopathy, which affects the strength of his spine and hind limbs.
Degenerative myelopathy is common among purebred German Shepherds. Unfortunately, there is no cure. However, there are treatments that can enhance the health of dogs with this condition including mobility aids such as dog wheelchairs to help them walk.
But when bringing him to their shelter, Stray Rescues’ immediate focus was not on treating degenerative myelopathy in German Shepherds. Their first priority was to clean it. Make sure he gets water and nutrition.
The poor dog had a lot of bumps stuck in his fur. Rescuers named him “Bill Burr” because of this.
“We are taking care of him now because he is very thirsty and hungry. He is a great dog and we are grateful to have him,” Stray Rescue wrote.
After some time passed, Bill Burr began to feel when Katie, a dear friend of Stray Rescue and a foster mother, came to groom him. Katie works as a nanny at Grooming by Pam. Make sure this cute German Shepherd has received a spa treatment.
“Bill Burr Looks Like a Dog” Participated in Stray Rescue. “He looks so handsome now and smells amazing. His fur is shining! He’s probably never had a bath before in his life. He definitely seemed to enjoy it. The love pouring in from all of you gives him strength!”
Bill Burr will undoubtedly continue to feel better with each passing day.
