There was a dog from Romania who spent seven years trapped in a small wooden box in the dark. Her hope was dashed until a compassionate group of animal lovers stepped in to help.
According to Victoria Bombero, a member of Pawprints to Freedom, the dog suffered seven years of darkness inside the Adjud public shelter. She never had the chance to see sunlight or feel the grass beneath her paws. The dog remained without a name. She seems to have lost all hope by refusing to leave her shelter and even neglecting her meals. As Bombero described it, her life became a mere existence without joy or purpose. It lacked a name. Her eyes looked blank as kind-hearted volunteers tried to calm her down. She had no choice but isolation and imminent death, and she longed for a home and a family.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, Pawprints to Freedom — an animal rescue organization based in the United Kingdom — knew they couldn’t abandon this dog at the shelter any longer. Determined not to let her suffer alone without a home or family, they launched a fundraising campaign in the hope of getting her from Romania to the UK.
Fortunately, their call for support was quickly answered as generous supporters banded together and raised funds in a period of time.
“Thanks to the support of our donors, we were quickly able to raise the funds needed to transport this poor girl. It is incredible how quickly we reached our goal, within four hours of publishing! Bombero expressed her gratitude. A local elementary school shared that she was not given The dog’s name is “Skye” but she has also contributed hundreds of dollars to her well-being.
In exciting news we have found Skye’s forever home! Gillian Elizabeth Grumet generously offered to provide a loving environment for Skye. She will be joining her furry brothers in a few days. Gromit has previously adopted another dog through our rescue charity.
Since finding a home for Skye, our volunteer at Adjud Shelter has been working tirelessly to boost Skye’s confidence. We’re happy to share that she’s been making progress and experiencing moments — like wagging her tail — throughout her seven years. It is heartwarming to witness how simple things like grass, sunshine and canned food bring happiness to her life.
With all the arrangements made by Skye, she safely boarded our transport. “I arrived at the Grummitts’ house without any problems.” Grummitt provided an update to everyone on the group’s page regarding Skye’s progress. He mentioned that Skye is very shy. She eats and drinks well and even wags her tail. Skye is now free to come in and out of her box as she pleases because she considers it her safe place.
Additionally, Gromit shared that Skye has been getting out into the garden for her bathroom needs and is making great strides. Now Skye dances with bated breath when it’s dinner time and she’s doing great.
Pawprints to Freedom couldn’t be happier that Skye has found a home where she can experience the joy of walking on the grass, in the sunshine, and dancing happily while she eats.
